Valya Vaschenko – 12 years old – U.S.S.R: Every eye in the room was upon Valya as the director of the school called her name again. “Valya Vaschenko,” the director said firmly, “take the oath.” Valya’s mouth stayed shut tight. “Valya! Say the oath,” he commanded. “Valya…Very well, I will read it in your name.”

Weeks earlier, the director of the school had decided that it was time that Valya, a twelve year old Christian girl in Russia, should become a member of the Communist children’s group known as Pioneers. Valya refused, but refusal was not hers to make. By law, the director took place of her parents.

When membership day came, the girls stood in a group before a table on which were laid the three-pointed, red Pioneer scarves. One by one the other girls had stepped forward to take the oath and put on a scarf. All but Valya.

As the director prepared to read the oath for Valya, he pointed to two other girls. “You will place the scarf on Vayla’s neck as I read.”

He began, “I, as a young Pioneer of the U.S.S.R., before my comrades – patriots deciding the question of my admission into the organization – promise that I shall stand firmly for the cause of Lenin and for the victory of Communism. I promise…”
But his next words were drowned out as Vayla burst out in prayer to God and began to sing a hymn:

“We will stand firm for the Gospel faith, for Christ, following His example, forward all, forward after Him.”

Again and again, in Russian schools, Christian children would stand up in class to pray out loud and to witness. These children were beaten and forced to leave their families, but others followed their example.

In 1963, prayer was banned in American public schools. What would happen if American parents had taught their children not to submit to this decision? They would not have been beaten, and their parents would not have ended up in jail as in Russia.

The ACLU used the courts to change school policy. In 1948 the Supreme court used the “Separation of Church and State” argument to outlaw a time for school prayer. In 1962 the Supreme Court again declared that prayer in school was unconstitutional. In 1963 the Warren Court stopped schools from allowing Bible reading in classes. In 1980 the Supreme Court declared that posting the Ten Commandments in a school classroom violated the Constitution of the United States.

Thus while the early American schools taught the moral values from the Bible, with school prayer, today’s public school system prohibit teaching moral values from the Bible, or even allowing students to pray to a God that a majority of faiths in this country recognize. The result is America has become a land with much looser morals then 4 decades ago, which is having a negative affect on all sectors of our society. History shows us that when societies become corrupt they begin to come apart and crumble.

The claim is made by the ACLU that these violate the Constitution, but then why did the founding fathers have, Bible reading, School Prayer and the Ten Commandments in their schools? Did they not understand their own Constitution?

Here in the United States, the First Amendment of our Constitution guarantees us freedom of speech and freedom of religion. What have we done with that freedom? Must we wait until it is taken away as it was in Communist Russia or other dictatorial societies before we grow bold enough to stand up?

Say what you will, I see the state we are in today as moral decline, we would allow special interests groups a hold such as homosexual activism and liberal progressivism but deny any resemblance of the guide the bible has to offer. Just saying that word angers many. School shootings, young mobs, vandals, future welfare dependants in the making…our making. Well I say take your pill and enjoy it, it was a placebo.

A Nation that refuses to teach its children right from wrong, good from evil will become a corrupt nation, where sin prevails, evil abounds, and children do as they please!

In 1898 Norman Triplett published a study on the social facilitation effect. He found that cyclists will have a faster time when riding with other cyclists instead of alone. He demonstrated this effect using children in a controlled lab environment and concluded that children perform a simple task faster in pairs than when performing the same task alone. During WW2 social psychologists studied persuasion and propaganda for the US military. After the war, researchers became interested in a variety of social issues such as gender and racism. Research continued in the study of cognitive dissonance, bystander intervention and aggression. Now there are ethical standards that regulate research.

Erik Erikson, a developmental psychologist came up with a theory on social development. Erikson is the one who coined the phrase “identity crisis”. Erikson explains there are eight stages through which a healthy person should pass from infancy to late adulthood. Each stage builds on the successful completion of the earlier stages. The stages not completed may be expected to reappear as problems later. The stages are:

•	Hope: Trust vs. Mistrust (Infants, Birth to 1 year)
•	Will: Autonomy vs. Shame & Doubt (Toddlers, 2 to 4 years)
•	Purpose: Initiative vs. Guilt (Preschool, 4 to 6 years)
•	Competence: Industry vs. Inferiority (Childhood, 7 to 13 years)
•	Fidelity: Identity vs. Role Confusion (Adolescence, 14 to 24 years) Love: 25-40 Years
•	Care: Generativity vs. Stagnation (Middle Adulthood, 45 to 65 years)
•	Wisdom: Ego Integrity vs. Despair (Seniors, 65 years onwards)

Adolescence is a transitional stage of both physical and mental development occurring between puberty and an adult, generally 13 – 19 years. James Marcia has proven that people who form the most coherent self-concept in adolescence are those who are able to make intimate attachments in early adulthood, supporting Erikson’s theory.

In the 50’s Elvis was considered by most to be too racy for TV and “I Dream of Jeanie” was considered almost pornographic by many. Would you hurry to switch the TV off now if a fully clothed singer was moving his hips in front of your kids? No one really cares anymore. Why?

Turn on the tube now and MTV’s Skins, The Hard Times of RJ Berger, Jersey Shore, 16 and Pregnant and My Super Sweet 16 are among the many sexually explicit lineups targeted towards adolescents. Why?

What about school? Recently teens were forced to watch the gay bed scene from the movie Milk at Moreno Valley High School without the permission from the parents. After the movie, the teens were rewarded with Milk Duds candy. One student did who not want to participate was forced to read out loud from a biography honoring Harvey Milk. Why?

About 40 elementary school students in San Francisco were read a new children’s LGBT book “My Uncle’s Wedding”. Why?

Redwood Heights Elementary school in Oakland now has a curriculum to teach children gender identity for a sexual indoctrination course. Why?

Diane Schneider who represents the National education Association (NEA) who speaks for most of the teachers of the nation said that “Oral sex, masturbation and orgasms need to be taught in education”, “sex education is the only way to combat heterosexism…” In today’s schools kids are inundated with sex saturation not education. Why?

Most schools refuse to allow children to fail and not encourage them to challenge themselves by risking failure or self-esteem. Why?

Dora the Explorer to teach kids Spanish. Why?

The list goes on and on. Why?

Could it be a liberal agenda? Could it be marketing ploys? Could it be a government type of research? Could it be merely coincidence? Armed with basic developmental psychology it would be easy to manipulate most any type of agenda starting with the youth of America and have them continue the cause willingly whatever it may be. Many will defend any attempt of revelation as pure idiocy while others may see our country and way of life stolen by using the youth.

Busted, Plausible, Confirmed?

If you believe there is something going on, who is behind it and what can be done? If you think it is all tinfoil hat conspiracy garbage, why?

As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”

He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied.

Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God. LUKE 18: 35-42

I like to go off roading in a 4×4. Once in a while I will go down a trail that others have left a huge rut in. I usually make it but sometimes I get stuck. Being the self confident (stubborn) man I am, I will do my best to get out of this rut by rocking the truck back and forth, even get out and get all muddy by placing sticks under the tires, all the while digging deeper and deeper until the only way out is to call for some help.

I have been stuck in a spiritual rut for a while now. I was reading this morning and this simple phrase made me stop and think. How powerful a statement it is: “Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him.“ Even though this dude is blind and disabled, he calls out to Jesus for help and Jesus says: if you want me to help you, then get your butt over here. A few things that grip me are:

Even though Jesus is busy He stops to hear the cry of the blind man.

The blind guy is discouraged by some of his peers but calls out even louder.

Even though this dude wasn’t capable of walking to Jesus on his own, he still had to do the foot work if he wanted the blessing.

It took faith for the man to be healed.

He praised and followed Jesus as did others who were a witness to the blessing.

I consider everything in life as a lesson no matter how small. What is the lesson to be learned from this situation? Have you ever been content with mediocracy? Do you have any stories of overcoming an obstacle? Are you in a rut now? I would like to hear from you.

But it is a serious question and a problem I am facing now. God should be our number one priority but lets be real here. When you have kids (especially special needs kids), a couple jobs, behind on bills, friends that need your help, a spouse that deserves and needs attention, cars that break down, bosses that have to have something yesterday, customers that are hard to please etc… Where and how do you find time alone to grow and love God?

I honestly don’t have an answer right now. I love the Lord with all my heart and will never forget the blessings He has given me but this seems to be my major weakness right now. Do you have any tips or advise? I would love to hear it!

Sincerely and honestly,

inspiration is in short order when walking alone...

Hello my dear and distant friends and family! I just wanted to make a quick post to tell you that I am in fact still alive and did not fall of the face off the earth!

Since I have been posting on here for the past few years, my policy has always been honesty first and honesty no matter what, so in keeping with that attempt at selfless honesty; I have been pretty much lost. Some hurdles have been rather hard to over come and I have really been trying to do it on my own despite what I know in my head and my heart. I have been wanting to get on here with some inspiring words but inspiration is in short order when walking alone…

Anyway, I am still just a broken sinner trying his best the walk the narrow path. I hope to have some inspiraitional words soon but I have some pain and sin that needs to be left at the cross. I know, it is just plain dumb to carry around that garbage but for reasons known to God’s, I can’t let it go right now.

Be back soon! I love you all,

When it hurts so badly you just want to throw your hands up… WAIT! Give God a chance, his grace goes beyond our understanding and his mercy is waiting on you right now! I know you may feel like your in the bottom of a hole all alone but God is right there beside you. He has given us so many assurances of his love, understanding and peace in the bible. Listed below are just a few of the passages that will lift your spirit and ignite a powerful beam of light that will cut through the darkness.

When you get sad Jesus says in John 14:

1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”

When you have sinned let your heart pour out to God like David did in Psalm 51(The Message):

1-3 Generous in love—God, give grace! Huge in mercy—wipe out my bad record.
Scrub away my guilt,
soak out my sins in your laundry.
I know how bad I’ve been;
my sins are staring me down.

4-6 You’re the One I’ve violated, and you’ve seen
it all, seen the full extent of my evil.
You have all the facts before you;
whatever you decide about me is fair.
I’ve been out of step with you for a long time,
in the wrong since before I was born.
What you’re after is truth from the inside out.
Enter me, then; conceive a new, true life.

7-15 Soak me in your laundry and I’ll come out clean,
scrub me and I’ll have a snow-white life.
Tune me in to foot-tapping songs,
set these once-broken bones to dancing.
Don’t look too close for blemishes,
give me a clean bill of health.
God, make a fresh start in me,
shape a Genesis week from the chaos of my life.
Don’t throw me out with the trash,
or fail to breathe holiness in me.
Bring me back from gray exile,
put a fresh wind in my sails!
Give me a job teaching rebels your ways
so the lost can find their way home.
Commute my death sentence, God, my salvation God,
and I’ll sing anthems to your life-giving ways.
Unbutton my lips, dear God;
I’ll let loose with your praise.

16-17 Going through the motions doesn’t please you,
a flawless performance is nothing to you.
I learned God-worship
when my pride was shattered.
Heart-shattered lives ready for love
don’t for a moment escape God’s notice.

18-19 Make Zion the place you delight in,
repair Jerusalem’s broken-down walls.
Then you’ll get real worship from us,
acts of worship small and large,
Including all the bulls
they can heave onto your altar!

When you have been hurt join David in this prayer from Psalm 27:5-6:

5 For in the day of trouble
he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle
and set me high upon a rock.

6 Then my head will be exalted
above the enemies who surround me;
at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make music to the LORD.

When you think God has left you, hold dear to Psalm 139 and 145:18 (The Message):

1-6 God, investigate my life; get all the facts firsthand.
I’m an open book to you;
even from a distance, you know what I’m thinking.
You know when I leave and when I get back;
I’m never out of your sight.
You know everything I’m going to say
before I start the first sentence.
I look behind me and you’re there,
then up ahead and you’re there, too—
your reassuring presence, coming and going.
This is too much, too wonderful—
I can’t take it all in!

7-12 Is there anyplace I can go to avoid your Spirit?
to be out of your sight?
If I climb to the sky, you’re there!
If I go underground, you’re there!
If I flew on morning’s wings
to the far western horizon,
You’d find me in a minute—
you’re already there waiting!
Then I said to myself, “Oh, he even sees me in the dark!
At night I’m immersed in the light!”
It’s a fact: darkness isn’t dark to you;
night and day, darkness and light, they’re all the same to you.

13-16 Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
The days of my life all prepared
before I’d even lived one day.

17-22 Your thoughts—how rare, how beautiful!
God, I’ll never comprehend them!
I couldn’t even begin to count them—
any more than I could count the sand of the sea.
Oh, let me rise in the morning and live always with you!
And please, God, do away with wickedness for good!
And you murderers—out of here!—
all the men and women who belittle you, God,
infatuated with cheap god-imitations.
See how I hate those who hate you, God,
see how I loathe all this godless arrogance;
I hate it with pure, unadulterated hatred.
Your enemies are my enemies!

23-24 Investigate my life, O God,
find out everything about me;
Cross-examine and test me,
get a clear picture of what I’m about;
See for yourself whether I’ve done anything wrong—
then guide me on the road to eternal life.

Psalm 145:18
18 The LORD is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.

When you hurt remember the pure love God has given you described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7:

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

When you feel like giving up remember Psalm 27:14:

14 Wait for the LORD;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the LORD.

Rest assured in Jesus Mark 8:34-35 (The Message):

34-37 Calling the crowd to join his disciples, he said, “Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat; I am. Don’t run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I’ll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to saving yourself, your true self. What good would it do to get everything you want and lose you, the real you? What could you ever trade your soul for?

All I can say is Wow! I highly suggest you see it. I cannot stop thinking about it. The movie goes deep into the viewers own life and exposes truths we don’t always like to see. I must admit that after seeing this movie, I have not been the husband God wants me to be. I left the theater longing for change, change that boils down to a better, more fulfilled relationship with God and with my wife. Bottom line, this movie can change you!

One step closer (this week) to Christ,
