Be still and know that I am God…

I have been swamped here lately. Either spending time with my girls, working on my truck or my latest web project. This whole time a verse has been resonating in my mind: “Be still, and know that I am God;  I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” -Psalm 46:10 I have always assumed this meant to stop what you are doing and make time to spend with the Lord in prayer and study… While this is needed to have a living relationship with the creator, the verse above has so much more meaning when I looked at the Hebrew text and the context of the verse. I learned that to “be still” means to surrender and be weak in the Hebrew text and used in context it is to surrender and know that God is in control!

When I surrender everything in my life and even the lives of my children, I am acknowledging that God has the power and that He knows exactly what I need as opposed to what I think is best. Jesus said it best: “your will be done” Matthew 6:9-13! God’s will not mine be done. If I am going to walk this road with Him, I better let Him take the lead, Lord knows every time I step up front, I end up down a dead end road and have to walk extra far to back track.

Time does fly by, the end gets nearer each day for all of us. I am learning that if I just be still and surrender everything to God, He will be the God He says He is and take care of all these small things I fret over. A wonderful side effect I am learning is He also gives a beautiful peace to me as a bonus!

Be blessed… did you know?

The Hebrew alphabet contains twenty two letters. The Hebrew language comes from God and each word is filled with meaning and insights to creation. David used each letter to start each verse from Psalm 25 below. The bible is alive and such a true joy to read. The bible will bring you closer to God by the power of the Holy Spirit! Don’t let a day go by without  being blessed from reading it. You have the time to watch that show, surly you can read a few verses each day after a few moments of quiet time in prayer with the Lord. Be blessed by David’s prayer below.

In you, Lord my God,
I put my trust.

I trust in you;
do not let me be put to shame,
nor let my enemies triumph over me.
No one who hopes in you
will ever be put to shame,
but shame will come on those
who are treacherous without cause.

Show me your ways, Lord,
teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
Remember, Lord, your great mercy and love,
for they are from of old.
Do not remember the sins of my youth
and my rebellious ways;
according to your love remember me,
for you, Lord, are good.

Good and upright is the Lord;
therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
He guides the humble in what is right
and teaches them his way.
10 All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful
toward those who keep the demands of his covenant.
11 For the sake of your name, Lord,
forgive my iniquity, though it is great.

12 Who, then, are those who fear the Lord?
He will instruct them in the ways they should choose.[b]
13 They will spend their days in prosperity,
and their descendants will inherit the land.
14 The Lord confides in those who fear him;
he makes his covenant known to them.
15 My eyes are ever on the Lord,
for only he will release my feet from the snare.

16 Turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am lonely and afflicted.
17 Relieve the troubles of my heart
and free me from my anguish.
18 Look on my affliction and my distress
and take away all my sins.
19 See how numerous are my enemies
and how fiercely they hate me!

20 Guard my life and rescue me;
do not let me be put to shame,
for I take refuge in you.
21 May integrity and uprightness protect me,
because my hope, Lord,[c] is in you.

22 Deliver Israel, O God,
from all their troubles!

Under Construction…

Don’t you just hate it when you are running a little late, jump in the car, fasten the seat belt and head out. You get a few miles down the road and slow to a crawl… You ease the clutch out and inch forward five feet only to repeat the process at least fifty more times. You look at the time and have been in the rolling parking lot for over twenty minutes now…

One thing I have to admit is before the construction starts I am the first to complain about the pot holes and messed up roads. Every time I try and dodge a pitfall I tell myself: “why don’t they fix these blasted roads?”.

After a few months pass, the construction is over and you take that first trip on the new road and have a tow-mater moment! It rides so smooth and so quiet, it is just a pleasant joy to drive! Imagine if you decided to take an alternate route and never went back to check out the new road!  Eventually the road does start to get the potholes again so the construction crew breaks out the cones again.

One certainty in this world is that we will face trials! Some people chose to take another path and run from God but we all live life wishing things were better and the path was smoother. When the time comes to improve our own lives not many embrace it with enthusiasm but after the Lord does His work in us if we allow it, our lives are new and so much better and we appreciate the new outlook and are filled with joy. If we don’t maintain that new relationship, our lives will eventually get bumpy again. It is no easy task in this fast paced society to stop, be quiet and wait for the Lord.

It is my prayer for both myself and you that we do not reject correction from the Lord but instead see the good works the Lord is doing and then maintain and hone a life filled to overflowing with the true joy and peace that goes beyond understanding.

“This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord:  ‘Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.’ So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. Then the word of the Lord came to me:  ‘O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?” declares the Lord. ‘Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.” -Jeremiah 18:1-6

Show me your Glory…

The Lord answered, “I myself will go with you, and I will give you victory.” Then Moses said to him, “If you yourself don’t go with us, then don’t send us away from this place. If you don’t go with us, no one will know that you are pleased with me and with your people. These people and I will be no different from any other people on earth…”

…Then Moses said, “Now, please show me your glory.”

The Lord answered, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will announce my name, the Lord, so you can hear it. I will show kindness to anyone to whom I want to show kindness, and I will show mercy to anyone to whom I want to show mercy. But you cannot see my face, because no one can see me and live. “There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. When my glory passes that place, I will put you in a large crack in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. Then I will take away my hand, and you will see my back. But my face must not be seen.” -Exodus 33:7-23

Would you go to the movies if they never showed a film? Would you go to the races to watch the grass get cut? I go to church and catch glimpses of our Lord’s glory. There is no mistaking it for some emotional chain letter rejected by snopes, I am talking about when the presence is so strong you feel you can’t live another day without another glimpse.

We have an event coming up on August the 26th called Harvest America. I am so excited that I cannot contain my joy. I will see God’s glory and majesty right in front of my eyes and the beauty of it… is melting my heart in anticipation. Each Sunday I catch these glimpses and cannot imagine a life without some form of God’s glory, I don’t want it! I cannot live without it and need it more than than air! Will you join me in sharing on this day coming up? If there is not a host in your area, you can watch online. God will show us His glory and I can’t wait!

Third Day: Show me your Glory

I caught a glimpse of Your splendor
In the corner of my eye
The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen
And it was like a flash of lightning
Reflected off the sky
And I know I’ll never be the same

Show me Your glory
Send down Your presence
I want to see Your face
Show me Your glory
Majesty shines about You
I can’t go on without You, Lord

When I climb down the mountain
And get back to my life
I won’t settle for ordinary things
I’m gonna follow You forever
And for all of my days
I won’t rest ’til I see You again

Show me Your glory
Show me Your glory
I can’t live without You

Remember where you have fallen.

I was reading along and all of a sudden I got to this verse and BAM! It hit me smack in the face. “Remember where you have fallen”… What does this mean? Time gets to moving so fast and commitments start to fill the schedule, school is starting up, the new red box movies are coming out, getting carried away talking to people, planning finances….I can go on and on. What is going on here? I am not out partying or getting into trouble yet in my seemingly innocent actions I am guilty of sin. I have not done anything wrong so how am I sinning?

I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name’s sake, and you have not grown weary. But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.
— Revelation 2:2-5

It is not so much of what I am doing wrong as it is what I am not doing. We each are called to the kingdom in different forms and we are given individual spiritual gifts for a reason. Perhaps the priority list should have kingdom items up top and entertainment items towards the bottom. Now that I think about it, I did not see a few dear friends at church this week, maybe they are going through a tough spot and could use a call or email. I realized today the trash at church was kind of full, what a small task…unless you are the only person that ever does it and could use a hand. There was someone crying at work today, I was too busy to stop and ask was she okay.

I see the inadvertent sin more clearly now and I ask you Lord to search me and point out what I am not doing for a change. I never thought I would say that… =D
